Job Description

This Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides treatment to DDD members and the like. The Speech Therapy Services Program is designed to maintain or improve participation and independence in the member’s daily activities. This service shall develop and train members and their caregivers in therapeutic activities in order for the member and caregivers to be able to implement the activities throughout the member’s day (such therapeutic activities are referred to as a “home program). Evaluation, assessment, training, and treatment are based on outcomes identified in the member’s planning document [e.g., Individual Support Plan (“ISP”)]. The SLPA will collaborate with the other OSBI Department Directors and Supervisors to ensure member(s) language outcomes will be included in the day-to-day activities, if provided during OSBI program hours. The SLPA will be required to adhere to the supervision requirements as per Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). Therapy sessions will be scheduled with the LSP/SLPA and may be conducted either via natural environment, clinic, and/or tele therapy as approved by the SLP.

Qualifications:

· The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (“SLPA”) must hold a license issued by the Arizona Department of Health Services (“ADHS”) pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes (“A.R.S.”), Title 36, Chapter 1940.

· A licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant must adhere to the supervision licensure requirements from A.R.S. § 36-1940.01(E), (F), and (G) from a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.

· The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant shall have a National Provider Identifier (“NPI”).

· The SLPA must have required membership with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as it pertains to their professional license.

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communication Science Disorder or Speech Language Pathology, preferred.

· 2 years working with individuals with intellectual disability

· Proficiency in computer use (Microsoft Office Applications & Scheduling & Electronic visit Verification (EVV) software)

· Demonstration of strong experience in innovation, reliability, effective communication and strong organizational, curriculum and course preparation and delivery skills

· Demonstration of knowledge of DDD, AZ State regulations & best practices, CMS 1500 billing templates, and ability to implement these practices preferred.

· Appropriate certifications and clearance according to ADHS and DDD State Regulations (i.e., Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card)

· Professional Speech Language Pathology Assistant license from the Arizona Department of Health Services

Job Performance

· Provide direct treatment, identified by the supervising SLP, by following the written individualized education treatment plans

  • Offer intervention strategies to staff for carry-over of the students’ speech and language goals and objectives
  • Complete required daily documentation
  • Assist the SLP in the collection and tallying of data for assessment purposes without interpretation of data
  • Attend parent conferences, IEP meetings, with the permission from the supervising SLP, and written documentation from the SLP. NO interpretation of data and/or change in treatment plan can be done without the SLP’s inputAn SLPA may NOT write a formal screening, diagnostic, progress, or discharge note

An SLPA may NOT perform ANY task without the approval of the supervising SLP

  • Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Customer Service

  • Project a professional, knowledgeable, and capable image consistent with the One Step Beyond mission in public interactions.
  • Consider the welfare, growth, and development of program members as a top priority in all organizational and program decision making, planning, and development, and model and demonstrate appropriate behavior management techniques (Article 9 training) with program members and mentor staff to do the same.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with members, parents/guardians to address concerns, maintain positive relationships, and serve as an advocate for members and a resource for parents/guardians.
  • Communicates professionally, effectively and in a timely manner with OSBI stakeholders.

Leadership/Team Collaboration

  • Handle difficult situations with a positive attitude by actively seeking problem resolution, creative solutions, and program and organizational enhancements to ensure individual and team performance as well as program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate weekly/monthly with OSBI’s HCBS Manager, Billing Coordinator, and AZ Executive Director regarding Speech Therapy program services

Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements and adjustments to program strategies.
  • Seek opportunities to collaborate with and learn from colleagues to achieve a greater degree of service to the organization and its program members.
  • Seek opportunities to share knowledge, experience, and best practices with colleagues to enhance organizational and program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness of strengths and challenges and implement strategies to enhance strengths and address challenges.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
